Mangaluru, July 20, 2016 :Former CEC, chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami will deliver a lecture on ’Subsidies, Freebies and Cash for Votes - Democracy in Peril?, as part of the 15th Balasubramanian Memorial Lecture organised by Corporation Bank Officers’ Organisation (CBOO) at CBOO Centre, Mangaluru at 6 pm, today, July 20.

Gopalaswami, is a gold medalist postgraduate degree holder in Chemistry from Delhi University (1965). Born in 1944, he hails from Needamangalam village in Tamilnadu.   He went into the IAS, Indian Administrative Service in 1966. After serving the Gujarat state government and Government of India in various capacities for 25 years, he was appointed CEC, chief election commissioner from June 30, 2006 to April 20, 2009.

The Balasubramanian Memorial Lecture series is being organised by CBOO on subjects of national importance on annual basis and held under the aegis of Balasubramanian Foundation for Education and Training named after its illustrious former president late N Balasubramanian.
