Mission ’Indradhanush phase-II’ launched in Udupi

Nov 07, 2015: Municipal councillor, Geeta R. Shet, launched the second phase of Mission Indradhanush at the Beedinagudde anganwadi centre here on Nov 6, Friday. This phase will conclude on November 17.

It aims to cover those children who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated, and also pregnant women. It will provide protection against seven life-threatening diseases such as diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B. Vaccination against tetanus will be provided to the pregnant women.

Councillor Shet said that when the personnel of Department of Health and Family Welfare visited houses for  vaccination, people should cooperate with them. It is for the people to take full advantage of this programme, which is taking healthcare to the doorsteps of the people.

In her introductory remarks, Rohini, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, said that the department would target those who had been left out in the first phase of vaccinations. More focus would be given to children in migrant workers colonies in the district, she said.

Prabhakar Mallya, president of Rotary Club, presided over the function. Sunita Naik, president of Udupi Taluk Panchayat; Nagaratna, Taluk Health and Family Welfare Officer; and Ramachandra Upadhyaya, secretary of Rotary Club, took part.
