Moodubidri police arrest rickshaw driver for attempt to rape

Moodubidri, Aug 27, 2012 : The Moodubidri police arrested an auto rickshaw driver on Sunday for attempting rape a young Dalit woman. 

Reportedly, auto rickshaw driver Mohammed Haneef of Handel in Moodubidri, who usually parks his vehicle at Vidyagiri Park stand, attempted to rape a young Dalit woman. 

The victim, who hails from Kokkada near Belthangady, works as a sales representative for a domestic ware store in Pumpwell, Mangalore. She had been to Moodubidri on Sunday for work. Haneef befriended her and told her that he would take her to some places in Handeli where there were several houses for her to sell her products. 

However, he took her to a secluded area and tried to rape her. The woman later lodged a complaint with the local police, who registered a case and began investigating.
