Moral policing in Suratkal : Cops arrest 5

Mangalore, June 22, 2013 : Suratkal police  have arrested as many as five persons, reportedly belonging to a Hindu outfit, on the charges of assaulting a Muslim man for talking to a girl from another community at Suratkal.

It is learnt, Shihabuddin (22) of Jokatte was assaulted by a gang of five miscreants when he had stopped his car near  the State Bank of India Idya Branch in Suratkal and was talking to a girl who was an acquaintance.

Shihabuddin immediately lodged a complaint with the Suratkal police who swung into action and arrested Mokshith, Santhosh, Deepak, Baba and Lakshmikanth, all residents of Idya.

They were produced before the court and later released on bail. Cases have been booked under different sections  against the accused,

Meanwhile, Shihabuddin has said he knew the girl to whom he was talking since a year and that they were close to each other.
