Mangalore, April 9: The Putholi murder case was among the longest, which lasted for 13 years and was fraught with legal twists and turns. Today, the case is finally closed and the Puttur Court has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for alluring, kidnapping, and murdering Harish Rai Putholi.
The murder of Putholi was cold-blooded, intentional, and cruel. Putholi, a businessman in Puttur, had a pre-marital relationship with Veena. However, Veena married Edpathaya Chandra of Puttur, who became suspicious of Veena’s fidelity. He later discovered that Veena and Putholi still had a relationship even after the marriage.
On March 19, 1997, Veena lured Putholi to Puttur. Her husband kidnapped him from his hotel and confined him to a house forcibly. Putholi’s body was found a few days later, badly cut, bruised, and burned.
The Puttur Court sentenced Veena and Edapathya Chandra to life imprisonment.
