Udupi, May 18: 600 mw of power will be generated from Udupi Power Company LTD, planted at Nandikoor near Padubidri, by the end of this month said an official of UPCL.
The officials further added that, 100 mw of power will be produced on May 20 and by the end of May 31 the power production will go up to 600 mw.
The first phase work of UPCL has been completed amidst strong opposition and protests against this coal-based thermal power plant.
Meanwhile, a high level meeting had been conducted in Bangalore on May 14. The main topic of the meeting was about the distribution of power. The meeting was concluded with distribution of 58% of power to Bangalore, 10-11% to Hubballi Dharawada, 10-11% to Gulbarga and But, remaining 8.5% mw was kept separate for Udupi, Mangalore, Shimogga and Chikmangalore area said official.
Another source in UPCL said that the CM would inaugurate the unit on Tuesday May 18. However, sources in the police department and district administration have confirmed that the visit of the CM is not slated for Tuesday.
