Mangaluru, Oct 10, 2016: The bidding of players for MPL, Mangalore Premier League Cricket was done at Forum Fiza Mall, Pandeshwarat week end. Owners, trainers and patrons of the participating teams were present along with MPL office bearers.

The tourney will be conducted by Karnataka Regional Cricket Academy, Mangaluru at BR Ambedkar Stadium, Panambur from December 17-30. So far 12 teams have confirmed participation in the tournament. The floodlight programme is jointly sponsored by Realtech and Mangaluru Occasional.

Upcoming cricketer Naveen M G who has represented Bijapur Bulls in the KPL was the costliest buy in the player’s auction held for upcoming Mangalore Premier League (MPL) 3.0.   Udupi Tigers picked him up for a sum of Rs 75,000 from among a pool of 34 icon players that each of the 12 franchisees vying for top honours in this edition of the tournament were supposed to pick.


Organised by Karnataka Regional Cricket Academy in association with Mangalore Occasionals and with the approval of Karnataka State Cricket Association, the tournament has Surathkal Strikers, Coastaldigest Mangaluru, United Ullal, Udupi Tigers, Karavali Warriors, President Sixers, Kundapur, Kankanadi Knight Riders, Team Elegant Moodbidri, Red Hawks Kudla, Karkala Gladiators, Spark Avengers, Bolar and Maestro Titan in the fray.

The organizers had divided the players into four pools. In the ’Icon’ pool, 34 players of the state who have played in the KPL and first class cricket were up for grabs.  Each franchisee was given a purse of Rs 2,50,000 and given the opportunity to nominate a owners’ choice player. Mohammed Taha who turned up for Hubli Tigers in KPL was the next costliest buy in the auction with Coastal Digest picking him up for Rs 2,000 less than what Udupi Strikers paid for Naveen.
