Naxal visits terrify villagers

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 22, 2012: The villagers of Shirady are deeply worried about Naxal groups that recently visited their homes. An old basket weaver in Shirady, for instance, is worried about how he can enter the forest now that Naxals are hiding there.

Media reports on Naxal visits in Kuthloor and Hebri and even Puttur have caused great concern among these villagers.

People in the villages of Honnakoppalu, Kabbinale, and others are in constant fear of Naxals visiting.

Jnaneshwar Hebbar, the owner of a house in Honnakoppalu, said that six Naxals visited his brother’s house and spent an hour there, interacting with the family as if they were long-lost relatives.

The Naxal team comprised Kanyakumari and Ramesh of Karnataka Vimochana Ranga. Reportedly, the Naxals had told villagers that they will not spare any police informers, adding that they had already killed Sheshappa Gowda of Menasinahadya and Keshava Yadiyala of Kundapura.

While three Naxals spoke to the family members, the other three stood guard near the door. The youngest of them was fluent in English, Tulu, and Kannada.

Mr. Hebbar said that their leader Koodlu Vikram Gowda is from Kabbinale and has been spotted several times in the past; however, he had not accompanied the team.
