New political party SDPI bagged 67 GP seats in Karnataka

Mangalore May 19: Abdul Majeed Kodipet, the state president of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), a newly formed political party, said during a press conference held at the Press Club that the party has bagged 67 seats in the recent GP polls.

He also said that the party contested for a total of 368 seats in Karnataka, of which it won 67 seats. In DK, the party supported 273 candidates, of which the party won 41 seats. In Udupi, the party bagged 13 out of 31 seats; in Coorg, it won 9 out of 34 seats; and in Tumkur, it won 3 out of 9 seats. The party also won one seat each in Ramnagar and Hassan, he said.

Mr. Kodipet also said that the SDPI will play an important role in the administration of many places, adding that an SDPI candidate will administer the Bedagotta Panchayat of Kodagu.

A thanksgiving programme for the winning candidates and activists will be held on May 25 at Town Hall, he said and added that state and national leaders will participate in this programme.

Speaking about the origins of the new party, he said that the party was born last October and gained a lot of support for its ideals and social work. Abdul Majeed thanked all the supporters and congratulated the winners on behalf of the party.

State Convener of SDPI Karnataka Abdul Hannan, Executive Committee of SDPI Karnataka Abdul Aziz Surathkal, District President SDPI DK Haneef Khan, and others were present for the press conference.
