Mangalore, May 21, 2013: Forest Minister Ramanatha Rai has said that there was no change in his stance on the proposed Netravathi River Diversion Project.
Speaking to reporters at Circuit House on May 21, Tuesday, Rai said he has opposed the project while he was an MLA and will continue to do so even now. He also feared that the water levels in Netravathi may recede if the project is implemented.
The new minister also stated that steps would be taken to reduce air pollution and enlarge forest cover. He further said that a committee would be formed to study the problems related to CRZ and a report would be sought. Rai also stated that the process of filling the backlog of vacancies in the Forest Department would begin soon and added he envisaged to launch ‘Laksha Vriksha Abhiyana’ a campaign to grow more trees and protect nature.
