Kavitha Trust, which was established for the promotion of Konkani poetry, has instituted the “Mathias Family Kavitha Award.” Since the cash part of the award is donated by Joseph Mathias of Dubai, the award bears the name of his family, which currently resides in Kuppepadavu.
The award, which is presented through the Kavitha Trust, comprises a cash award of Rs. 10,000, a citation letter, and a memento. The Mathais Family Kavitha Award will be presented during the Kavitha Fest in January 2010. Last year, Aruna Rao Kundaje, a Konkani poetess residing in Mumbai, was chosen for this award.
All Konkani poems, songs, devotional hymns; translations of poems, songs, and hymns; general critical works, articles about poetry in other languages, research and other types of contributions to Konkani poetry by Indian people living in different parts of the world will be eligible for this award.
The poet or writer should have at least 10 years of experience in Konkani literature and should have made some contribution worthy of notice to the language. The award is not to be given posthumously.
All nominations should be sent in before November 15. The nominations must contain 5 reasons to consider the person for the award. In addition, it should also include a lot of information about the writer’s works, along with testimonials.
