Mangalore, Nov 28, 2012 : The Karnataka Right to Information (RTI) Commission has imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on B. M. Raveendra, deputy director of the DK District Mines and Geology Department, for his failure to provide timely information under RTI to the applicant.
Raveendra, who also happens to be the public information officer of the same department, not only failed to provide timely information to B. Prakash Bhat, the applicant, but also violated RTI rules by providing incomplete information.
The commission has issued a show cause notice to the officer, who apologized.
M. R. Poojary, state information commissioner, said that the fine will be deducted from Raveendra’s salary in two installments. Besides, Raveendra is required to submit an action taken report once he has paid the fine.
