Oil leak leads to minor fire at MRPL

Mangalore, June 5, 2013 :It has come to light quite late that there was a minor fire due to oil leak at the MRPL at Kuttettur. It is said a line leading to the crude column during the start up of phase II caught fire on June 3, Monday.  However, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Reports say the fire was immediately brought under  control. Sources reveal that the start up of Phase II may be delayed by another  four to five days due to this. Meanwhile all other refinery works are going on as usual.

But, ironically, the Department of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health in Mangalore is unaware of the fire mishap though rule states that any such fire mishap in an industrial unit has to be intimated to the Department.
