Orthodox Syrian Church supreme head’s Qurbana Dec 6 Sunday

Brahmavar, Dec 5, 2015 :  Speaking at a public meet held in commemoration of his maiden visit to St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar, and the inaugural ceremony of the centennial celebrations of the Cosmopolitan Higher Primary School, Brahmavar; the first educational institution of St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar. Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, the Supreme Head (whom his followers consider as their Pope) of Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Syrian Church, said knowledge of diverse culture will enable children better understand the world.

He said cultural homogeneity is a bane and multicultural learning will help the children adapt easily to the diversified culture which is the epitome of the country. The perfect gift to the country is to ensure that youth are equipped with knowledge and tolerant to the diverse culture in the ambiance they are brought up.

He said, "Our schools will adapt and have embraced  diverse cultures which help children to be comfortable with  diversities".

Asserting that primary  education plays a major role in the life of individuals, he said primary education is the major phase from where the root of the life journey begins.

He stressed on the need to maintain the sanctity of the primary schools education for better communication. Schools not only serve the academic purpose, they are also the pedestal that offers knowledge on various skills, including the human bonding. The children should be able to develop the capacities to face the challenges of social life without losing morals and morale. There should be guiding personalities helping out the present generation to reap the harvest, he said. Lauding the centennial celebrations of the Cosmopolitan Higher Primary School, Brahmavar’s efforts in imparting quality education in the area, he said many generations have completed their elementary education in the schools and the students who commenced the journey from here may be all over the world. The commitments of the community has indeed helped for the good services, he said.

He added that spiritual strength can be gained from the failures in the past. He observed that there should always be a path for correction. It is the right time to move forward, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake lauded the efforts of the community for the contribution aiding good services in terms of the development and education in the area.  The selfless service from the community has changed the area in and around Brahmavar totally into a modern civilized hub.

The supreme head of Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Syrian Church was warmly welcomed with a procession from Udupi Karavali Junction to St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar. 

On December 6 Sunday, he will be celebrating a Holy Mass at 8.30 am.  During the Holy Mass (Qurbana), the late Archbishop Alvares Mar Juilus (Founder, Brahmavar Konkani Orthodox Community) and the late Rev R Z Noronha (First Vicar General, St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar), will be declared ’Blessed Saints’.
