Mangaluru, May 11, 2015: According to information the Uppinangady police arrested a gang of nomads; on the pretext of reading people’s palms, allegedly robbed them. The men were nabbed at Uppinangady cross.
The police seized their van, some cash and a few lethal weapons, such as swords and a couple of iron rods.
The arrested are Mahesh alias Mada from Uppinangady, Manikanta from Bengaluru, both of whom have multiple cases of dacoity against them in Brahmavar Police station limits in Udupi district, Devaraj from Krishnapura, Ramesh from Alevoor, Venkatesh from Bengaluru, Nagaraj from Surathkal, Prakash, a native of Angadihalli, Kaverappa from Arasikere and Manjunath from Surathkal.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days by the Puttur Court and are housed in Mangaluru Prison. Multiple crimes came to light After the arrest, police received information that the gang may have been involved in crimes in other police station limits within the district as well as in other places
