Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 4 : Udupi Pejawar Mutt Seer Shri Vishweshateertha Swamiji has promised to discuss case of the forcible eviction of the Patrao family with DC V Ponnuraj. He said that a course of action will be decided on the basis of this discussion. The Swamiji visited the Patrao family in Kalavar and interacted with journalists shortly thereafter. The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board Authorities (KIADBA) had demolished the house, cattle sheds, and poultry sheds of Mr. Gregory Patrao to acquire the land for the expansion of MRPL.

The Swamiji said that the officials have violated all humanitarian laws by demolishing these structures. He called Gregory Patrao, who continues to fight for his land, a “model fighter.”

Vidya Dinkar, the environmental activist, said that the ancestral property of Gregory Patrao should be left out of the acquisition plan because MRPL will not be building any structures on this land.

Shri Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji of Kermar wants immediate steps to be taken with regard to the complaints of missing jewelry and commodities during the demolition.

Local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that he is prepared to hold detailed inquiry into the pros and cons of the land acquisition process.

Lokesh Shetty, president of the Bala Gram Panchayat; Satyajit Suratkal, the leader of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike; Mariamma Thomas, the corporator; William D’Souza, the secretary of Agricultural Land Protection Committee; Eshwar Kateel, and many others were present.
