Poet Thomas Lobo’s 95th birth anniversary marked

Mangaluru, Mar 7, 2015: Kavita Trust, and A T Lobo Foundation, organised ’A T Lobo- a Poetic Journey’, in commemoration of Konkani writer and poet Apollo Thomas Lobo, on his 95th birth anniversary.

The programme comprised an interaction at the residence of A T Lobo’s brother, with the late writer’s brother Lawrence Lobo and sister Mary Monteiro. Both recalled emotional moments from his life, who they said ’lives through his writings.’ They also released a book of his poetry ’A T Lobo - a Poetic Journey’ in Konkani, published by Kavita Trust. The book comprises of Konkani Shayaris and Qawali songs. A Qawali by A T Lobo was set to tune by musician Anil Patrao, was presented on the occasion by his team. The second was at the residence of Raymond Lobo, who acted in A T Lobo’s plays and was his close associate.

Rare encounters : Felix Saldanha, another actor remembered rare encounters with late writer. Another actor of yesteryear and academician, Carmelita Goveas, recalled how the late writer introduced her to acting and how since then stage has transformed her life.  She paid glowing tributes to the late playwright.

The third was by the graveside of the poet. On a silent evening, it was unusual for an army of 70 people to gather by the graveside and turn nostalgic as they recalled the contributions by A T Lobo to Konkani literature.  Poems, on the theme of death, were recited and Fr Richard D’Souza alluded to the fact how a person through his work and contribution etched himself in the minds of people and lived on eternally.
