Udupi, June 18,2016:The Udupi district police on Friday arrested four persons in connection with the assault on the five followers of a zilla panchayat member Sumith Kowdoor, which took place at Bailoor village near Karkala on Wednesday night. K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu that the four persons had been arrested in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. The names of the accused were given as Vishwanath Poojary alias Kodekere Vishwa, Tilak Shetty, Chittaranjan alias Chittu, and Dhanaraj alias Dhanu.
The police had also seized four swords and a vehicle from the accused.
The accused would be produced before court on Saturday. The police were on the lookout for three more persons in connection with the attack, he said. A gang of nine persons, led by Kodekere Vishwa and Praveen Kulal, attacked and assaulted five followers of Mr. Kowdoor at Bailoor village around 10.45 p.m. on Wednesday (June 15) night. Mr. Kowdoor had said that Vishwa and Kulal had warned him over telephone that they had taken “Supari” to murder him and the Bajrang Dal leader Mahesh Shenoy.
