Mangalore, May 13: The cops of Mangalore have arrested Althaf, who is in police custody on charges of murder conspiracy of two lawyers, without any reason said his family members in a press meet held here on May 12.
Mohammed Ashraf, Althaf’s uncle, has alleged that the police had captured Althaf, who was answering his BBM exam then, in connection with the Chetan Shetty’s murder case. He went to Mumbai without answering BBM exam. During this time, DCIB police were frequently visiting our house to nab Althaf. Petrified with situation, we have approached the then Superintendent of police Dr. Subramanyeshwar Rao and sought his help. Rao had ordered DCIB police not to visit Althaf’s house off and on. After receiving anticipatory bail from the court, he returned to Mangalore. He has also missed to attend his sister’s marriage, which took place, while he was in Bombay, Ashraf said.
After coming back from Mumbai, he did not attend the class. DCIB police have succeeded to arrest him, while he was waiting for a certain Iqbal, who called him over phone to meet him near his house. After his missing, we went to Pandeshwara police station to file a case. But, Ramakrishna, Sub-inspector of Pandeshwara has told us that we need not lodge a complaint and said about Althaf’s arrest. On May 5, we have read Altaf’s name with other culprits who were involved in the murder conspiracy of prominent two lawyers of Mangalore. When we met him in the jail, he has revealed that the DCIB cops were not providing him food and torturing him, Ashraf grieved.
He further said that the DCIB police have captured him without any reason. The Mangalore Bar Council association has also taken a decision not to support Althaf, he added.
“Althaf, who is in prison now, has corroborated that he has no connection with the murder conspiracy of the lawyers. The family members of Althaf, who met IGP Gopal B Hosur and City commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, have decided to seek help from Chief Minister and Home Minsiter , he said.
Bi Fathima, Althaf’s mother, Chikkamma Ramla Begum, and Abdul Aziz, relatives of Althaf, were present in the press club.
