Police form three quick response teams in Manipal

Manipal, feb 6, 2015: In light of the death of a student of Manipal Institute of Technology who fell from the fourth floor of a building on February 1, the district police have put in place new safety and security measures here.

To enforce security measures effectively, the police have formed three quick response teams. These teams will reach the spot immediately on getting information and take necessary action on the spot. In addition, the district police have also increased the staff strength of the Manipal Police Station by adding another five persons to the existing team.

K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police, said that in addition to these measures, the police had issued directions to Manipal University to see to it that their students were not found loitering on the streets without any valid reason after 12.30 p.m. “Our aim is not to harass the students. We are only aiming at ensuring the safety of both the students and the public in Manipal,” he said.

For effective implementation of these measures, the police have roped in Manipal University and residential apartments associations.

The police held a meeting with the representatives of 45 residential apartments association a couple of days ago and briefed them on safety and security measures they could take. “We have told the residential apartments associations to be vigilant and inform the police with regard to any unwarranted activities,” Mr. Annamalai said.

The district police will hold a meeting with all heads of institutions and heads of students’ councils of the university on Friday to sensitise them and seek their cooperation in its effective implementation.
