Police nab dealer of pen cigarettes

Kasargod, Feb 6, 2014: In what comes as a shocker, police seized pen cigarettes that are being circulated on a large scale among the students in Kasargod.

K.A. Ali (44) of Nawaz Manzil, Arafa Road, Anangur has been arrested for allegedly selling such cigarettes in his petty shop situated near old bus stand at MG Road. It is learnt that the accused has revealed the cigarettes were brought from Calicut and that students were his main targets. Police team led by T. Uttamdas, SI has also seized other illicit items from the shop.

Specialty of pen cigarette

While a regular cigarette could produce bad breath, a pen cigarette that comes in various flavours such as grape, vanilla, chocolate etc gives good fragrance. The pen shaped cigarette is manufactured out of plastic. One needs to open the top of the pen in order to smoke. A single cigarette can be lit several times unlike the regular one. Each pack consists of five cigarettes and every cigarette will be charged Rs 10-15.

How did truth come to limelight?

It so happened that a parent found one such cigarette from son’s pocket. Hence a complaint was lodged with the school authorities. The teachers when held an inspection in the school found several such cigarettes. A complaint was then lodged at the Jana Maithri police.

 
The seized samples have been handed over to the forensic experts. Police have informed that the investigation will continue after reports are out.
