Polish student Miloez Lachowski dies of drowning in Thottam

Udupi, Ju 6, 2012 : Miloez Lachowski (22), an International Association for Technical Exchange (IAESTE) student of Poland, died of drowning at Thottam Beach yesterday.

Lachowski had gone to Thottam Beach with his friends Marana Maazam of Tunasia, Kinga Bar of Poland, Marcin Dlubis of Poland, and Prasanna. They had first gone to Malpe Beach and then taken a walk to Thottam Beach at around 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

The group swam for nearly two hours, but two of them were far away from the beach and looked as if they were in trouble. Sensing danger, local fishermen immediately entered the sea with ropes, but they could save only Marcin Dlubis as Lachowski had already died of drowning by the time they reached him.

According to local fishermen Ravi, Purandar, and Ramesh, the sea at Thottam is quite rough during monsoons and they had warned the boys against swimming there.

The foreign students who visited Malpe had come to Manipal University on a student exchange program called International Association for Technical Exchange (IAESTE). Every year, nearly 60 foreign students come to Manipal as part of these student exchange programs.
