Principals meet on safety of students

Manipal, Aug 15, 204: The meeting of Principals of ICSE and CBSE schools in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts at Christ school here resolved to put in place all the required safeguards to prevent child abuse in their schools.

Psychiatrist and Director of Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Dr P V Bhandary in his speech elaborated on different kinds of abuses – physical, emotional, and sexual abuses children are subjected to.

He observed that in many cases, abuse takes place in familiar surroundings, and the perpetrators are either ‘trusted’ relatives or some ‘good Samaritan’. He urged both the parents and teachers to be very careful and sensitive to safeguard children. Nobody should take this issue lightly, as it can cause a permanent scar in the child’s psyche and can have serious long-term implications. The POCSO Act 2012 (The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) has to be implemented strictly to deal with offenders.

Correspondent of Christ School Fr Francis Lewis and Little Rock Principal Prof.mathew Ninan spoke. Several safe guards are to be chaulked out soon.
