Private bus hits pickup van, 8 in hospital

Puttur, Jan 31, 2016: As per reports, a private bus going towards Bengaluru from Mangaluru rammed into the van from Udane.  Six laborers were injured in the pickup van near Periyashanthi cross.

The injured were identified as driver Riju (30), Vilas (25), Laldev (26), Abhimanyu(28), Jugal (27) and Akhilesh(29); they were admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. The laborers were from North India. Driver KB Shankar and conductor Pramod of the Bengaluru-bound bus were also injured and were admitted to a private hospital in Nelyadi.

As per traffic rules, a pickup van could be used to transport only goods and not people. However, contractors have been ignoring the rules. The traffic department and police are also not taking any action in this regard.  Traffic was disrupted for nearly half an hour after the accident. Nelyadi police rushed to the spot and took control of the situation.
