Process and purpose in education vital --Valson Thampu

Mangalore, Oct 11, 2014: “The art of education is the education of the heart,” said St Stephen’s College ( New Delhi ) Principal Prof Valson Thampu. He was delivering the valedictory address at the international conference on leading efective schools at Little Rock Indian School.

Speaking on potentials  of change he stressed that a dangerous thing to do is to change the atmosphere around us. People remembered in the world are not those who were successful, but those who were mediating changes. Hence, as educationists and school administrators we have in us the power to turn a conference into a revolution, he noted. “What is important is to change our thinking on education. The problem of modern man is that he is too preoccupied with the process that he forgets the purpose. This has been happening in an alarming way in the field of education,” Prof Thampu said.

Eminent educationists Prof Michael Chirichello (Northern Kentucky University USA), Dr Darlene DeMarie (University of South Florida), Dr Claude Boever (Luxembourg), Dr Roy Philip were present at the function. AICS President Dr Thomas J Quadros School Principal Prof Mathew C Ninan spoke. The conference was attended by delegates from all over India.
