RTO to inspect all vehicles at Bangra Kuloor from Apr 1, today

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, April 1, 2016 :  The Transport Department, which had shifted activities involving inspection of heavy vehicles and issuing fitness certificates to Bangra Kuloor, off NH 66, from January 1, has announced  inspection activities of all vehicles only at Bangra Kuloor from April 1,Friday.

Regional Transport Office, Mangaluru, had to shift heavy vehicle inspection activities after coming under severe criticism for being the cause for frequent traffic snarls in the heart of the city near State Bank. The central parts of the city did not get much relief even after this as inspection of light vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, continued to be done on the RTO premises near A.B. Shetty Circle.

An official release here said non-transport vehicles, which include four-wheelers and two-wheelers, would be inspected between 10 am and 1.30 pm, while transport vehicles would be inspected between 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm at Bangra Kuloor.

Those intending to get new vehicles registered or fitness renewed for old vehicles, have to pay the required fee and produce the vehicle for inspection, the release said.

The district administration has permitted the Transport Department to utilise about 2.5 acres of government land at Bangra Kuloor to conduct inspection activities so as to decongest the central parts of the city. The land is strategically located abutting National Highway 66 on the way to Panambur  and is easily accessible to the general public.

Lack of amenities :   The department has been unable to provide basic amenities, including shelter , to the visiting public as it does not own the land. While the public and department officials have to sweat it out during the summer, they have to wade through dust and slush and brave the rains during monsoon.

Though the Transport Department is allotted about 10 acres of land near Mudipu to provide various facilities, including vehicle inspection centre, drivers’ training school etc., owners of small vehicles might find it difficult to go all the way up traversing about 20 km from the city for inspection purpose.
