Railway department approves overbridge at Jeppu

Mangalore, April 19: The Railway department has given approval for the construction of railway over bridge at jeppu- Mahakalipadpu level crossing here. 

The commuters passing here at Jeppu have been pressuring to construct over bridge since long time. The road passing through this level-crossing connects the National Highway 17. People use this short cut road to reach Mangalore in a small duration. Now the approval to construct over bridge will reduce the tension of people, who off and on switch off their vehicle at the railway level crossing and wait in the queue for trains pass.

The railway department had permitted to construct a railway over bridge at Jeppu. But they have not given any approval to construct railway under bridge (RuB) or railway underpass here said Ranganath C Kini, Chief Whip, council of the Mangalore City Corporation. He said the council of the Mangalore City Corporation has given a positive answer for the proposal. 

He further added that, the agenda laid here on Friday at the council meeting had sought the council’s approval for railway under bridge, but after the meeting, the council made certain changes to approve the railway over bridge, he said. The city corporation had sought Rs 4 crore for constructing a railway overpass here.
