Mangalore, Oct 8, 2014: To allow for development work at  MIA-Mangalore International Airport, the night flight operations (10 pm to 8am)  from November 1 to April 30, 2015 is likely to be suspended.    Speaking to media, Mangalore International Airport Director Radhakrishna said “to facilitate the work on the runway safety zone, we have written to the Civil Aviation authorities seeking permission to suspend the flight operations between 11.30 pm and 7.30 am.” Work worth Rs 35 crore has been sanctioned at the airport. Tender process has been completed. The work order has been entrusted to PCC constructions company.

The work on safety zone, parallel taxiway has been included in the work. Now work will be taken up on the runway. However, if the work is taken up near to the runway, then it will affect the movement of flights. In the interest of the safety, it has been decided to suspend the flights during night.” If the movement of flights are suspended in the night, then it will affect two flights. The AI Express flight from Dammam to Mangalore lands at 3.30 am. Instead of 3.30 am, it will land at 7.30 am and AI Express from Dubai lands at Mangalore at 4.30 am.  instead it will land at 7.45 am. AI Express leaves for Dubai at 8 pm. Now, it will be changed to 11.00pm, said the Airport director.
