Rights federation flays govt moves

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Oct 16, 2014:  Speaking to media on October 15,   Human Rights Federation of India Divisional Secretary Haneef Saheb Pajapalla has said that the government has brought vigilance squad of the Escoms under the Managing Director of Escoms, without discussing it  with the elected representatives.   He said a circular issued by Under Secretary to Energy department A A Chapparaband dated August 16 said that the post of IGP, ADGP (vigilance sqad), KPTCL and Escoms have been suspended. The circular has directed all the Vigilance SPs to report to the Escom MDs. This will hamper the independent working nature of the vigilance squad. “With this, the power of the vigilance squad has been curtailed. Eralier, under the guidance of IGP/ADGP, the vigilance squad could conduct probe into allegations against Escom MDs as well. The curtailing of power will also give rise to increase in corruption in Escoms.”
