SAC to hold National Seminar on Environmental Biotechnology and its Applications

Mangalore, Dec 7, 2013: The departments of Biotechnology and Botany of St Aloysius College will organize a National Seminar on ‘Trends in Environmental Biotechnology and its Applications’ sponsored by UGC and DBT (under Star College Scheme) at Eric Mathias Hall on Dec 10-11.


Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Dec 7, Saturday, Rev Fr Leo D’Souza-Director, Laboratory of Applied Biology and Convener of the Seminar said that the aim of the seminar is to create a forum for interaction and sharing of knowledge in different aspects of Environmental Microbiology and Environmental Biotechnology.


He also said that chief guest DR T V Ramachandra- Senior Scientific Officer IISc, Bangalore will inaugurate the seminar on Dec 10 at 9am. Dr A M Narahari-Registrar, St Aloysius College, and Rev Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ-Principal, St Aloysius College will be the guests of honor.  Rev Fr Denzil Lobo SJ-Rector, St Aloysius Institutions will preside over the function.


Dr K V Nagalakshamma-HOD, Dept. of Biotechnology (UG) said that faculty, scientists, researchers and students from the fields of Basic Sciences, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Material science and Engineering are the target audience for the seminar.


About 250 delegates are expected to participate in the seminar. There are Paper presentations for Staff and research students, poster presentation for UG students on environmental issues. Best paper presentation and best poster prizes will be awarded.
