He went on to  say  that around 25,000 people, most of them from minority communities reside in the area. Though it is a part of the Mangalore City Corporation, the condition of the area is extremely bad.  People have no basic facilities like roads, potable water,  drainage system basic ameneties and more. The numbers of Malaria affected people is high in Bengre. But, the city corporation is not co-operating with residents to maintain hygiene. The corporation vehicles don’t collect garbage, he said.

Abdul stated that though there is community health centre, it is not adequate . When a number of residents from Bengre were attacked by Dengue recently, we had requested the DHO to visit the place,  no one visited the place till date. The wards are also facing electricity problem and people spend days without power. But, the MCC and the Forest department blame each other and nobody is ready to take responsibility. Several memoranda  have been submitted to the corporators and the MLA, but all efforts are in vain. only during elections. Several families of the area still don’t have title deeds. Though all necessary documents have been submitted to the DC, we didn’t get any response from him. Without providing basic facilities to the residents the peoples representatives will not get away in the name of development of tourism.

SDPI workers shouted slogans against Corporators Raghuveer and Meera Karkera, MLA J R Lobo and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. SDPI Bengre Ward Committee President Razak Bengre, District Secretary Anwar Sadat, Treasurer Ashraf Manchi and others were present.
