SIT nerds develop special dump truck

SIT nerds develop special dump truck

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 29, 2014: An innovative approach in the process of dumping materials has been realised by the final year mechanical engineering students of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore. The project named as ‘The 3-way dump truck’, is an outcome of the efforts of Shonith Someshwar, Sajeeth Ramesh Shetty, Shreepannaga and Naveen H N.

The 3-way dump truck acts like any normal dumper, but it is capable of dumping in any three directions- left, right and back. The unique feature of the truck is that it uses only two hydraulic jacks as in the case of a conventional dumper. The truck can be made to dump in 3-ways by using special type of hinge and link. The truck has the conventional jacks (2 jacks) that are placed in a required position supporting the dumper. The head of the jack is connected to the dumper with a custom made roller arrangement which provides it with a pivoting action in two directions. The other end of the jack is connected to the chassis of the truck with suitable joint. The back end of the dumper is connected to the chassis, by using a hinge and link mechanism. This hinge will enable the dumper to be tilted to left, right and backward directions.

The project has been carried out under the guidance of Prof Purushottam Katti, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
