SJEC’s all-terrain vehicle earns kudos at national-level event

Mangaluru, Mar 11, 2017: A team of SJEC Racing from St. Joseph Engineering College – Vamanjoor, Mangaluru — recently showcased a good performance at the prestigious all-terrain vehicle (ATV) racing event — Mahindra SAE BAJA 2017—held at NATRIP site at Pithampur in Indore.

It came out as the only team from Mangaluru region to successfully complete the competition of the four other teams from the region.

SJEC Racing also emerged as the first team to complete the most challenging “Endurance” event from Karnataka.

It also ranked third in Karnataka in terms of overall ranking. Nationally, the team secured the 26th position in “Acceleration and Endurance” event and 47th overall rank among 150 teams that participated, stated a release from the college.

SAE BAJA is a national- level engineering competition organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) – India to engineer and manufacture a Single Seat All-terrain Vehicle.

SJEC had started the SAE INDIA- SJEC Collegiate Club in 2016 with the participation of 70 members. Work on the SJEC ATV named TURTLE 1.0 commenced in January 2016.

The team has five Departments: Design, Powertrain, Suspension, Steering, and Braking that worked to develop the final product.
