Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 21, 2015 ; Giving a wake up call to artistes to give importance to the particular style of Yakshagana which they have been representing,  Yakshagana artiste Patala Venkataramana Bhat after receiving Boluru Dogra Poojary memorial Yakshagana award, at a function in Ravindra Kala Bhavana exhorted them to  adhere to the special style and not to mix up various styles together. He lamented that several artistes these days have been reducing purity of the styles by mixing up the Tenku and Badagu styles in their performances.

He further said that a deep sense of reasoning along with dedication and research attitude are necessary for artistes, to be accepted by the audience. It is essential for the artistes to keep in mind the factors of voice articulation, acting and also ornamentation. He said that when he started out as a female role enactor in Yakshagana plays, he thoroughly studied the postures depicted by the sculptures of dancing damsels in Belur and Halebidu temples. This gave him a deep understanding of ornamentation, which he himself applied in his performances.

Sharada Group of Educational Institutions Chairman Prof M B Puranik presided over the programme, AIR, Mangaluru, Programme Executive Sadananda Perla was the chief guest, former RTO and Brahma Baidarkala Garodi, Kankanadi, Administrator Surendranath, Boluru Dogra Poojary Memorial Trust President B Damodar Nisarga, Honourary President Ganesh Amin Sankamar, and Yakshagana artiste Kumble Sundar Rao were present among  many admirers.
