Safety of citizens a top priority: CWC

August 10, Friday, 2012:M.M Ganapati , Assistant Director of CWC( Concerned for working Children ) based at Kanyana in Kundapur Taluk held a meeting to suggest safety measures around percolation ponds, and other pits in the district here on Thursday August 9^th.The CWC urged the district administration to give power to gram panchayats to inspect open walls or unused wells that leads to creation of pits on private properties. For safety reasons a minimum of 3 foot fence to be built around the pits, they suggested.

 The committee was of the opinion that gram panchayats were not informed by the Zilla Panchayat, department of Agriculture and Minor Irrigation before digging pits or percolation ponds.

Deputy Commissioner M.T Reju “We have received four valuable suggestions from The CWC demanding safety steps around these ponds. We will issue a circular on these measures to all gram panchayats and Government departments to prevent drowning cases hereon” he said.
