Mangaluru, Sep 05, 2019: Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samiti is pursuing with the government to establish Veerarani Abbakka Bhavana.
Veerarani Abbakka Utsava reception committee President K Jayarama Shetty told reporters at Patrika Bhavana on Sept 4, Wednesday that even though Rs 5 crore was allocated in the budget for Abbakka Bhavana, during the tenure of former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda in 2012-13, the Bhavana had not been built.
He demanded that Rani Abbakka Study chair should be set up in Mangalore University and urged that Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) should be named after Rani Abbakka.
“Memoranda were submitted to the Union government, state government and the district administration in this regard. But, there was no use,” he lamented.
Jayarama Shetty also felt the need to develop Ullal-Someshwara, the place of Rani Abbakka, as a famous tourist destination.
“Abbakka Museum, Smaraka Bhavana and Theme Park should be built in Ullal. One train from Mangaluru should be renamed as Abbakka Express. Abbakka’s life and achievements should be included in the school syllabus,” he added.
