Scarcity of doctors a hurdle - Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty

Mangaluru, Dec 6, 2015: Talking at the two-day national conference on ‘Safe and Sustainable Hospitals’ here on Saturday, Chairman of Narayana Health Devi Prasad Shetty  said there was lack of trained doctors in the country.

The scarcity of doctors at the community health centres was 48 per cent. While the demand was for around two lakh gynaecologists, there were just 30,000. The Centre and State Government need to increase the number of postgraduate and undergraduate medical seats at the earliest as there is death of doctors at the community health centres, he said

Dr. Shetty also stressed on making better use of nurses by training them in intensive care and other health care aspects.   The conference was jointly organised by the Academy of Hospital Administration, the Manipal Chapter, the Yenepoya University, the A J Hospital and Manipal University. Health Minister U.T. Khader inaugurated.
