Mangaluru, June 07, 2016: According to a media release, HRPF, Human Rights Protection Foundation organised a seminar on government schemes for special children at Vaikunta Baliga College of Law on June 5,Sunday, at Brahmagiri.

Speaking as a resource person, Niranjan Bhat, District Officer for Empowerment of Senior Citizens and Differently-Abled Persons, gave details of government schemes and programmes available for special children and people with disabilities. The District Disabilities Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) was recently opened at the Red Cross Bhavan near Brahmagiri here. Various government benefits including artificial limbs, equipment and hearing aids for disabled persons would be provided. There were various facilities available such as student stipends, scholarships and refund of school fees for differently abled students.

Ravindranath Shanbhag, HRPF president, said that every town must have facilities for physiotherapy and the NGOs must assist the department in implementing it.
