Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2015 : Chairing a meeting of the senior police and port officials on August 10, Monday, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Pattanayak S.K. said security measures are even more vital at all the smaller ports along the Karnataka coast.
He pointed out except for NMPT - New Mangalore Port Trust and Karwar port, the security measures taken up at minor ports are not satisfactory. The officials should chalk out an action plan in this regard. All measures should be taken to install CCTV, provide police security and appoint security personnel to provide security to the minor ports.
Sea face provides easy access to the coast. It is essential to beef up security at ports. The security plans should be chalked out on a priority basis. Colour code should be made mandatory to all the fishing boats. The State government is looking into the proposal to provide security to the old port in Mangaluru under Karnataka Industrial Security Force. There is a need to keep an eye on goods transported from Old Port.
DG&IGP Om Prakash said the department of police, port and fisheries should work in coordination. ADGP A M Prasad said there is need to increase security at minor ports. IGP (Western range) Amrit Pal, City Police Commissioner S Murugan and SP S D Sharanappa were present at the meet. Officials from the New Mangalore Port Trust, Fisheries Department, Ports Department and other officials also attended the meeting.
