Mangalore , Dec 12, 2012 : A seminar on “ Reservation in Private Sector” was organised by the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Mangalore on December 11, Tuesday.
Speaking on the topic, N Mahesh, State Convenor of Bahujan Samaj Party said liberalization, globalization and privatization policies aimed at preventing the backward classes from obtaining employment. He also urged for reservation in private sector and added reservation was aimed at achieving equality and that it was not meant for charity purposes
Mahesh also said that the unprecedented growth in the private sector in the nation has not helped the backward classes due to the absence of reservation in private sector. The backward classes needed their share in the private sector, he argued.
History also reveals that the concept of reservation existed in India even in the past, he pointed out. He further blamed the Congress for not giving due importance to the reservation policy.
Abdul Jaleel K, District President of SDPI, Akbar Ali, Chief Secretary, HT Srinivas, State President of Vishweshwaraiah Technical Graduates Association, were also on the dais.
