About A S N Hebbar
Mr. Hebbar, who began writing when he was a student in University College Mangalore, has been an active journalist for the past 50 years. He used to personally submit news and features to Bannanje Ramacharya, editor of Navabharat Kannada, every day. Owing to this, he was chosen to send Kundapur news to Udayavani when the paper was launched on a pilot basis in 1969. Ever since the official launch of Udayavani on Jan 1, 1970, Hebbar has been the only reporter sending news from Kundapur.
When his headlines and human interest stories became popular, editors of Deccan Herald and Prajavani requested him to send them news and features and appointed him as their correspondent.
Now aged 79, Mr. Hebbar is still writing columns for several newspapers. He also writes travelogues, humor articles, stories, poems, and essays.
As the founder president of Kundapur Taluk Journalists’ Association, Hebbar formed the Udupi District Working Journalists’ Cell and wrote its constitution. He is still its founder and vice president and remains as the life member of these organizations.
Next year, Mr. Hebbar will complete 50 years as a lawyer. He was also the founder secretary of the DK District Advocates Cell.
He lives in Kundapur with his wife Sudha, three children, and six grandchildren.
