Sewage water problems force residents to protest against MCC

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sep 26, 2012 :The Suvarna Karnataka Seva Sangha, an NGO, organized a protest near Vishal Nursing Home with the local people against the Mangalore City Corporation’s (MCC) incompetency.

Flaying the civil body for not solving the sewage waste water issue from the past 2 years, the protestors blocked the road and expressed their rage.

Suvarna Karnataka Seva Sangha President N. P. Shenoy said that sewage water has been stagnating nearly 3ft and 40ft long for the past 2 years, giving rise to dangerous diseases. Although the local people have lodged complaints regarding this with Harish Kumar, MCC commissioner, and Geetha Nayak, then deputy mayor and now ward corporator, nothing has been done. The sewage water overflows on the road and the entire locality stinks, making life very difficult for the people of the locality, he added.

Further, he said that the local people had decided to voice their grievances through this demonstration, adding that Deputy Mayor Amita Kala and engineer Ganesh rushed to the protest venue as soon as they came to know about the protest and assured the protestors that the civic body will solve the problem at the earliest possible.

Mr. Shenoy warned that the people will intensify their protest if the MCC does not repair the drainage system at the earliest.

Surprisingly, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar and Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Karbikar reside in the same locality.
