A group of sex workers in Karnataka donated Rs. 50,000 for the flood victims of North Karnataka. In appreciation of this generous act of philanthropy, CM B. S. Yeddyurappa said that Rs. 50,000 donated by these sex workers is worth Rs. 500 million.
He expressed his gratitude when he accepted the cheque at a programme arranged by the sex workers to inaugurate a center called Ashodaya Academy to prevent the spread of HIV-AIDS, which they plan to run with the help of an NGO and UNAIDS.
Secretary of Ashodaya Samithi Bhagyalakshmi said: “At a time when the entire state is mourning the death and devastation caused by floods in North Karnataka, the sex workers who are part of our organizations have contributed the money.”
Recently, the chief minister led a padayatra in different areas of Bangalore to raise funds for the flood victims of North Karnataka. He has successfully raised Rs. 700 crores.
