Shetty bike trip to Thailand - awareness on cancer

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Jan 9, 2016 :  In a spirit of adventure and with a cause in his heart, Mangalurean Shivaprasad Shetty, 40 yrs, is set to embark on a road trip to Thailand from Mangaluru on  Jan 9 Saturday. Shetty, a businessman, who runs a touring company, says the focus of the ride is to not just to experience the culture of South East Asia but also to create awareness on cancer. He has been to Nepal, Bhutan, Ladakh, Rann of Kutch and Sikkim.

Excerpts from Shivaprasad Shetty’s Statement  : The Foundation is a recent initiative of Shetty Communication Co and Shetty Construction Co (SCC). The aim of the Foundation is to work in the medical and education sector. It is a dedication to my mother, Kusum Shetty, who was involved in social work. We are working on a framework where dedicated NGOs will work directly at the ground level with people affected or are likely to be affected. They will work with colleges, schools, corporate institutions to take this to the next level. Anyone keen to help can reach out to me directly.

The ride from Mangaluru will start on January 9 and I will be taking along "Sunshine" my Royal Enfield Machismo 350 for the ride. The ride will be approximate 10,000 km over 45 days. Sunshine has been modified for long distance rides.

The route will be India, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. While the Thai visa is done, the rest are being processed. Myanmar is the most difficult as you can only ride in a convoy along with a four-wheel vehicle manned by a tour guide, a government official along the entire route. The route needs to be re-planned and approved by the government with entry and exit dates pre-determined. The riders need to follow the schedule and are not allowed to change it.

It will be a solo from Mangaluru to India border at Manipur. There I’ll be joined by five more riders from across India and we will all cross Myanmar together. Post that, a decision will be made to either ride solo or ride together.
