Smart city, ’think tank’ on Communal harmony

Mangaluru, Oct 29, 2015 : Well known leaders of various religious and spiritual organisations have expressed a need to reserve space for exchange of moral values - irrespective of community - to strengthen harmony in the proposed smart city.

In a meeting convened at MCC Oct 28, Central Jumma Masjid Secretary Ahmed Bava said steps towards economic sustainability and reliance should be undertaken by the administration so as to attract investors.

Jumma Masjid (Chokkabettu) Khatib Abdul Aziz Darimi supported green initiatives such as urban afforestation. He also suggested building an all-community hall, where people from various religions and communities could exchange their views on religion and spirituality.

Karnataka Theological College Principal Honey Cabral said that flexes and banners spoil the beauty of the City and, hence, display of such publicity material should not be permitted everywhere.

Rosario Church Parish Priest Rev J B Crasta said that the City should go green and plastic-free. Sanandana Dasa from ISKCON said that cultural centres should be built to spread positive thoughts.

Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya Mangaluru Head B K Vishweshwari, Urologist Dr G G Lakshman Prabhu and Dr Vinaya Poornima said that spiritual values should be spread among people. There were also suggestions to make the Police Department alert  and control moral policing.

MCC Mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred, Commissioner H N Gopalakrishna and Joint Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak were present.
