Some good professional work leads police to the accused

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Maech 21, 2016: Not much was available for the police, except for a blood-stained shirt and a hand kerchief at the place of murder of a 50-year-old labour in the Central Market here on February 29. However, the information provided by a traffic police inspector of spotting a person with the victim a week before the murder led to the arrest of two persons allegedly involved in the murder.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar said that for the first few days after the murder, the police had to work to identify the victim, who was found to be Jayananda (50), a labour, who often slept on the pavement near the ESI Kanti Church. The accused strangled Jayananda on the night of February 28 at a secluded place in the Central Market after giving him alcohol.

Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that while subjecting the blood-stained material for scientific investigation, the Mangaluru North Police shared details of the incident with police personnel across the city. Details and photographs of eight persons suspected to be involved in the murder were also shared. “Traffic Inspector (West Division) called Mangaluru North Inspector saying that he had spotted one of the suspects with the victim a week before the murder. This clue led to the arrest of the accused,” he said.

Mr. Chandra Sekhar gave the names of the accused as Ravi (35) and Naveen (20). He said that some good professional work by the police had led them to the accused. Now, they are looking into the financial transactions between the victim and the accused which the police suspected led to the murder.
