Oct 14, 2016: Speaking to media at Udupi on Oct 13, Thursday, Pejawar Mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami said that as many as 250 to 300 Yoga experts are expected to take part in the event. The first ever Southern Indian Yoga Sports Championship organised by Yoga Federation of India will be held at Rajangana here from October 14 to 16. The three-day competition will be inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes.
He said yoga experts from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar and Andhra Pradesh are taking part. The selected participants will be eligible to take part in the national-level Yoga championship to be held at Ranchi in November.
Pejawar Mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami will deliver spiritual blessings on the occasion, while International Yoga Federation and Yoga Federation of India Secretary General Ashok Kumar Aggarwal will preside over the programme.
Contests : The competitions will be held in six age categories - 11-14, 14-17, 17-21, 21-25, 25-35 and 35 years and above. The participants should present 10 Asanas in 10 minutes.
The valedictory would be held on October 16, where two Yoga experts from Iran-Sahar Firoozifard and Parisa Mohammadi will be present.
