Special children’s Treasure Hunt, thrills all

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Feb 1, 2016 :  Rahul Bhandary and team with visually challenged navigator Gaurav took the first place in the Braille format of ’Mercedes Sundaram Guiding Stars 2016’, a four-wheeler treasure hunt for specially-abled children, held on Jan 31, Sunday. The second place was bagged by Sreejith BS and team with visually challenged navigator Rakshith.

In the Kiosk Format, the first place was bagged by Deepak Ramani and team with navigators (speech and hearing challenged) Abhishek and Gagan and the runners up were Meraj and team with navigators (speech and hearing challenged) Mohammed Asik and Sujith.

This is the sixth consecutive year that Round Table Mangalore was organising the event to champion the cause of special children, jointly with CREDAI Mangaluru.

The special children were from the Roman and Catherine School for the Blind and SDM Mangala Jyothi School of Integrated Learning. Every one of the 50-odd participants from the public too felt that the experience was enriching - a spirit of competitiveness mixed with the flavour of true inclusivity.

The event was conducted in two formats - a kiosk format and a braille format. The route map for the event was accordingly scripted in two ways in Braille, a language that the visually challenged use to read through and in Kiosk format ’Charade clues’ were given for children who are hearing and speech challenged.

While braille clues led people to various points around the city, ’Charade’ clues led to ’Charade-Kiosks’ that had been setup at various points along the treasure hunt path. At each kiosk, speech challenged children performed some form of charade to decode the clue. The participants deciphered the answer from the actions of the children and get the clues.
