Udupi, Sep 16, 2015 : A media brief from the NCC here Sept 15 said that 490 cadets from various schools and colleges of the State are participating in a State-level NCC, naval wing , camp being conducted from September 12 to 21.
Senior division NCC cadets of the Goa Naval Unit about 30, are also taking part, as they come under the Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate. The camp is being held at the Saraswati Sabha Bhawan at Chitpady here. Captain M.C. Belliappa is overall ’Camp Commandant’.
The camp is known as Pre-Nau Sainik Camp, where inter-NCC Naval Unit competitions will be conducted. These competitions are keenly contested after months of vigorous training. The competitions being conducted during the camp are ship modelling (miniature warship making), firing/shooting, boat pulling in Udyavara, drill parade with rifles, naval signal communication, tent pitching and arrangements, service subject exam, seamanship and health and hygiene.
Apart from these, the camp would also have cultural competitions, Best Cadet competition and Overall Best Naval Unit of Directorate competition, such camps are a vital part of NCC training.
