State may junk church attack report

Mangalore, Sep 26, 2014:  The State law department is learnt to have recommended to the State government that it reject the report of Justice B K Somashekar Commission on church attacks in the State as there were contradictions in the interim and final reports submitted by the panel.

The commission was constituted to probe a series of attacks on churches and prayer halls in September 2008, four months after the BJP government assumed office. In its final report submitted to the government in 2011, the commission had given a clean chit to the ruling BJP and its affiliate the Sangh Parivar.

However, in its interim report, the commission had felt that Sangh Parivar had a role in attacks. The State Cabinet recently decided to refer the report to the law department for its advice.
